Six Hospitalized Following Head-On Crash on Sam Garner Road

Six people were transported to the hospital following a head-on collision on Sam Garner Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash was reported at approximately 5 p.m. and involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions. Preliminary information from the Highway Patrol indicates that one vehicle was traveling northbound while the other was traveling southbound.

Investigators said the northbound vehicle crossed over the center line and entered the path of the southbound vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of the northbound vehicle reportedly declined medical treatment at the scene. Six occupants of the southbound vehicle were transported to Carteret Health Care for evaluation and treatment. Information regarding the severity of their injuries was not immediately available.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash and temporarily closed Sam Garner Road while the scene was secured and investigators worked to document the circumstances of the collision.

The roadway remained closed for approximately one hour before authorities reopened it to traffic. Motorists were subsequently able to resume travel through the area.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Officials have not released additional details regarding the identities of those involved, the extent of the injuries, or whether any citations or charges will result from the collision.

Head-on crashes can cause serious injuries because of the force generated when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide. Investigators typically examine vehicle positions, roadway conditions, witness statements, and other available evidence when determining how a collision occurred.

The incident serves as a reminder for motorists to remain attentive while traveling and to maintain their position within designated lanes. Crossing the center line, even briefly, can create an extremely dangerous situation for other road users.

Our thoughts are with the six people who were hospitalized and their families as they recover from this frightening incident. We also extend appreciation to the emergency responders and medical personnel who assisted those affected.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to release additional information if it becomes available.

For now, Sam Garner Road has reopened, and normal traffic is moving again. Drivers are encouraged to remain alert and exercise caution while traveling through the area.
